A True Story
About a year ago, at work, I leaned back in my chair to stretch, and my wrap and bobi shaper fell off in front of everybody.
It was a moment of panic....I covered my hair with my hands, but that didn't do anything except create a gesture of my humiliation.
As far as I know, only one person saw, and that was a woman. Everyone else seemed occupied at their desks, so I don't think they saw what happened, but I can't confirm.
To me, that was a moment of pure embarrassment. Pure, "WHAT THE..." at the thought that I may not have secured my wrap tight enough. I felt like I took my pants off in front of everyone; that's how naked I felt.
To the woman who saw, she covered her eyes out of respect. The people I work with show their hair. They don't have a religion or belief they follow, which suggests they cover, so I don't think they understood the significance of what happened.
I needed to laugh about it, to think of it as a moment of being human, and mistakes happen. It was a moment, and nothing bad will happen because of it. Of course, I asked Hashem for forgiveness, but I think he was smiling back and saying, "It's alright."
Mistakes happen, and we can choose how we respond to them. We can laugh, run, cry, or do something else entirely. No matter how we respond, it's important to remember that we can't walk a perfect no-mistake line. We are faulty, but we are also creatures of growth. Every opportunity to reflect on our growth is another step closer to emotional freedom. Take steps towards growth, not backwards towards fault.
Much love,
Sorrell
